About Iranian Culture and Art Club

In 1995, we sensed the need for cultural awareness about the Iranian culture and arts within the city of Fresno, CA. The Iranian Culture and Art Club (ICAC), a non-profit organization, was created to help promote cultural awareness through Persian books, films, music, dance, lectures and community events. The first Persian Language class started with 15 young children of Iranian-American descent on September 1990.

Cultivate, Educate and Preserve the Iranian culture through informative and enlightening programs for all the residents of Fresno County. ICAC provides, at minimal cost to the student, Persian language, dance, music, theater and poetry classes. In our organization we believe that education produces clarity and tolerance within the community.

The Iranian Culture and Art Club of Fresno was created as a nonprofit organization for the purpose of promoting the Iranian culture, arts and customs. The Iranian Culture and Art Club (known as KANOON is committed to providing Bilingual (English/Persian) lectures and performance series with dynamic artists, writers, poets and scholars to create a venue of better understanding of this rich culture to the general public of the San Joaquin Valley.

The Iranian Culture and Art Club (Kanoon) is a volunteer organization that has experienced many and varied successes in the past several years. One such achievement is the recognition of the Iranian New Years (Nourooz) on March 21st by the Fresno City Council in 2005. In fact. the year Nourooz became a recognized holiday in the city of Fresno, two members of the City Council attended our Nooroz celebration. At that time, they spoke to the audience and presented the certificate of recognizing Norooz as the Iranian New Year.

Persian/Farsi language classes have been conducted on September 1990 and continue at Fort Washington Elementary School , Islamic Cultural Center and at the present at Unitarian Unviersalist church of Fresno . Approximately more than 500 children and adults have taken the class over the years. In the last three years, students of Persian/Farsi class of ICAC performed more than ten historical and traditional plays in our cultural events. ICAC volunteers created all the traditional and historical costumes and props for the students.

Fresno County residents of all ages have access to ICAC's cultural programs and Persian language classes. These programs enhance cross-cultural understanding while fostering and preserving our culture for our children. By sharing our cultural essence with these activities, we will inform, enlighten, and keep our heritage alive
